7 Necessary Disciplines for Making Disciples Introduction I. Attention Getter: Jesus commanded us to make disciples of all nations. He didn’t say, â€Å"make converts of all nations† or, â€Å"make people think God probably exists†, He said â€Å"make disciples.† Making disciples doesn’t mean convincing people God is cool or even that He exists, it means sharing the sacrifice of Jesus with them, and impressing on them the love and life of Christ to the point that they themselves desire to continue the process of sharing the gospel. Making disciples requires the knowledge of *being* a disciple, and there are disciplines required to actually becoming and living as a disciple of Jesus. II. Thesis: Teaching something is not possible if we don’t know the†¦show more content†¦Being slow to speak and quick to listen allows us to grow in the body by understanding others. When we take the time to listen, we gain perspective and empathy, which leads to a stronger relationship in leadership and mentoring. b. Philippians 4:8-9 tells us â€Å"†¦if there is anything worthy of praise, think on these things†¦ and the God of peace will be with you.† That’s certainly a factor in my self management. What things worthy of praise could possibly be detracting from my spiritual or emotional well being? In a more analytical way of reading it, this verse tells us that if we basically just stick to What Jesus Would Do, we are going to be perfectly fine. There is much to be said on *choosing* to focus on beauty in the worst times, because there is no denying it, it’s just there, and it is good. III. Discipline of self development a. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. This is not to say you can t ever be upset, there is a difference between rejoicing and being happy. What this says, specifically in terms of self development, is that regardless of what we are going through, there is still beauty. We are to keep our eyes fixed on Him in prayer and thanks, thus developing strength *based in Him* through the experience.
